Me: Do you know I am still dreaming about that sunday food?
H-Baby: Lmao! Me too, that suya toast
Me: The toast, corndog, pepper-pepper chicken, everything!
You know it was a sunday filled with amazing eats if we are still talking about it the thursday after…. And every sunday in August, these amazing eats were served at a street feast put together by Oluranti Adegbola (Ig: @aboutlastnighttt)…. *Pause* Lagos, did you know we have a date night concierge? Earlier, I had just the perfect pair of shoes and purse, now I have Oluranti to worry about planning the perfect evening, all I need is my dress and partner *whoop whoop*
….Soooo I got a chance to attend on the third sunday with H-Baby and this was the menu for the day
We skipped breakfast and got there at about 2:30pm which was apparently early. I am going to vent now….I didn’t get to try Anu Bello’s 3 & 4 because puffpuff frying had to wait till we had more people *silent scream* I was about to get upset but then there’s dainty Anu Bello (peep her ig: @fromlagoswithlove and you would understand) offering me FREE jollof rice because it’s #wordjollofriceday, my heart had to melt so we decided to dive into the ludo game with our new friend Amie….
You should have seen the way three of us asked ‘no meat?’ when the plates came and Atim (Ig: @afrolems) told us we were also getting FREE corndogs….that shut us up so time to try this meat-less jollof. All I can say is that it was a pleasant surprise, proper yoruba party firewood jollof! We were also served FREE Jack Daniels’ cocktails (Did I mention that this was a Jack Daniels sponsored event yet?)
I was going to ask for more jollof but the corndogs came almost immediately…..
Afrolems 2: Puffpuff corndogsAtleast this was some form of puffpuff *big smile* One of my favorite eats of the day….Sausages are delicious enough but to now drench them with delicious puffpuff batter= Stick of delicious madness!
Enough free goodness, time to order….
Anu Bello 1: Suya chicken toastAlso one of my favorite eats of the day! (I actually can’t decide on one favorite) H-Baby and I kept trying to figure out how it must have been made and we both agreed it had that french toast feel to it….Yummy chicken suya layer on yummy bread toast layer= Layers of yummy madness!
Afrolems 1: Bole canoe with creamy shrimp sauceYou know, looking at the menu, I wasn’t sure about this because I thought it would be more sweet than spicy then I watched it being assembled and the pepper slices were speaking to me….scrumptious roast plantain split in the middle and fed with scrumptious flavorful shrimp sauce= Canoe of scrumptious madness!
Afrolems 3/5: Peppered guinea fowl with yam cakes Hello Fiery food gang! This is not for the faint hearted…. I’m sure you have been in this situation where your food is really hot but that makes you love it even more so you keep eating and drinking water and loving it….extra spicy guinea fowl pieces with a side of moist yam cakes topped with extra spicy sauce= Bowl of spicy madness!
Time to cool my palette down with some sweets….
Anu Bello 5: JD Sweet tray with a shot!Because this was the most priced dish on the menu, I expected some large tray but yet again, I was surprised when I dug in! No I did not have the shot raw, I had it mixed with coke so straight the treats. I’m sure Anu attended some class on how to infuse food with alcohol because the balance here was clap-worthy….the popcorn was very infused with JD ofcourse but then somewhat salty so there wasn’t any alcohol overpowering situation and the baby jellies seemed just subtly infused. The whole thing just worked! JD Sweet crunchy popcorn plus JD sweet soft baby jellies= Tray of JD sweet madness!
Feasting with AboutLastNight, Afrolems, Anu Bello and Jack Daniels was amazing! H-Baby and Amie made it even more fun….can we have more of this please?
Here’s some of us….
Afrolems with the cutest accessory
The feast was held by the poolside of Maison Fahrenheit hotel, Victoria Island….perfect chill zone!
