It was a hot afternoon, all I wanted as the doors of Marcelino’s Pastry swung open was to bury my face in a cold drink. But their display of indulgence hit me and I found myself having a feast!
I started off with the stand of freshly made smooth ice cream. After trying out a couple of flavors like pistachio & mango and loving them, I settled for banana. This was already me pampering myself so why not take it up a notch by having it as a milkshake.Very rich, creamy and flavorful with a lovely dose of whipped cream right on top. At this point, my head had cooled down and it was time to soak in the beautiful décor. The entire space screamed christmas prettiness, each window was endowed with ornaments that look like special gifts from Santa Claus.
Time to move onto my next adventure….. Crêpes!
While my dining partners and I waited for our crêpe orders, we decided to snack on a croissant & strawberry tart since they won’t stop tempting our eyes. Can we take a moment to appreciate the stand first…..the love signs got an awww moment from me. Now, let’s get down to the eats, I had the croissant and elation was my name. Lagos pastry shops steady give us dense bread like croissants so finding this very flaky buttery one here made my day!
Our crêpes arrived a few moments after and here’s what I think…..this place should be bestowed with the title of “Crêpe Heaven”. They make them light and airy with the right amount of crispiness around the edges…..just perfect!
Starting off with my favorite and the only savory delight we had…..Gourmande…..boy, was I blown away! It was pure joy….a thin layer of crêpe heavily drowned in the kind of salty butter you just want to lick then a layer of moist flavorful ham topped with another layer of oh so good crêpe! Like the cherry on the cake, this decadence was topped with yum shavings of cheese and bright notes of green onion. My favorite part was the fact that there was more butter on the side! I slathered a hip in between my grubbing and the texture got me every time.
My second favorite was the very sweet “Cold Kiss”. The presentation made me fall in love even before I dug in. What’s not to love about melted white chocolate drizzle? This seemed like the simplest one on the menu but it’s deliciousness had no bounds! And the strawberry slices were of course there to bring freshness to each bite.
This one was unapologetically rich….. Marcelino’s special! Banana, pineapple, strawberry and coconut fun. What’s even more fun is the fact that it is the only one which comes with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce. For the others, ice cream attracts an additional cost.
Bananarama is for super chocolate lovers! Beneath that crêpe fold is a very rich chocolate layer with fresh banana slices and nuts for crunch. Apparently, one of the secrets to this is the use of Belgian chocolate (Swiss isn’t always best).
I am thoroughly impressed with Marcelino’s and I can’t wait to explore their cafe-like menu….
It’s a good thing they have a playground for kids, I can already imagine Christmas breakfast with my family here and then we can have a gingerbread house as dessert!
And oooo, I find the window-flower situation here very stylish, how cute are my pictures?
