Welcome to my Accra Series…..your one and only source into the scandalous four-day food romance of four Accra vacationers…..Nana, Kwa-B, Koko (code names) and me!

#TheFoodLoverInAccra Series will have 4 or 5 episodes as the spirit of writing leads. On this pilot episode, I’ll briefly share some random food, drink and tour loving moments. Proper restaurant visits to follow.

First off, our favorite place was Bloom Bar! I got so caught up in the moment, I didn’t take pictures apart from these Tequila shots we took to wake up our night life. Bloom was a lot of fun! Outdoor space, beautiful patio lights, great vibe, fire DJ…..

We each had the Bloom Punch, a really tasty boozy mix with a doze of bubbles and smoke (Click here for video & other Bloom moments). Then we shared a Mini platter with super yummy sausages, wings and samosas that I can’t stop thinking about. Bloom is already on my itinerary for the next time I’m in Accra! (N.B. They are closed on Mondays.)

Beach-ing never felt so good! Bojo Beach Resort was about an hour from the apartment we stayed in at East Legon and we loved every bit of it….clean, uncrowded, canoe experience…..

Republic Bar was supposed to be one of our main outings on this trip, we chose to go for their Monday paint night which starts at 7p.m. but due to foreseen circumstances (taking forever to dress up), we arrived at past 9p.m. It was too late to join in on the activity so we called for the menu annnd got a shocker, their menu is very health conscious…..brown rice, “home-grown” something, vegetarian meals…..I couldn’t connect at all (yes, I’m a fattie). The only indulgent things we spotted were yam chips, wings and pork ribs. After much deliberation, we each got just their famous Kokroko cocktail. I wasn’t a fan but Kwa-B seemed to love it.

After Republic, we made a stop at Chicken Inn for some fast food which left me very satisfied.Koko had a chicken burger and yes, I tried it. The crunch on the chicken was everything! I’m definitely going to have this the next time I spot a Chicken Inn. Lagos, why do we not have one?

I had Jollof rice (I don’t think Ghanaian jollof is bad at all, I’d never understand why Nigerians think otherwise) and fried chicken that was worthy of the name “Chicken Inn”. Spot the tiny jar of pepper sauce by the side…..it’s called Shito. I finally realized I’m a pepper girl because through out my stay in Accra, no shito was spicy enough for me.

The joy in Kwa-B’s voice when we sighted Burger King (Another big food franchise absent in Lagos). No way we weren’t going in. Oh, and on a side note, traveling from Accra to Lagos with Burger King goodies is very doable since the flight duration is less than an hour.I went with a Kid’s box just because it comes with a toy that I knew would put a smile on my little brother/kitchen assistant’s face.

Most times foreign restaurant chains set up in Lagos, the standards drop so I wasn’t expecting anything great. Buuut they surprised me, this cheeseburger was goood! At other times, I had their beef burger and chicken nuggets….slay, slay!

We popped into The Honeysuckle one fine evening and fell in love with their wings. The honey mustard and pepper flavors were superb!

Hello The Good Cider lovers! We ran into this at a supermarket on our first tour day. After visiting Black Star Gate and James Town Lighthouse, the sun had drained me. This delicious strawberry-flavored cider drink brought me back to life at first sip.

Lastly, Fanice was a source of joy to us all four days! If you like the one on the streets of Lagos, you’d love this one because it’s creamier and sweeter.
