TheFoodLover: You know those restaurants that won’t stop displaying how cute and inviting they are on Instagram (yes, it’s a good thing)…..Tearoom/Tulip Bistro is one of them.
CrocsAboutTown: Yea, those aesthetically beautiful picture perfect spots.
TheFoodLover: I had been dreaming of visiting Abuja just to partake in this indulgence so of course it was top priority for me as soon as I arrived.
CrocsAboutTown: I wasn’t looking forward to visiting here o! I think the ordeal of the Lagos Tearoom and its saga wouldn’t let me visit. I just couldn’t shake it off.
TheFoodLover: Haha! Please don’t remind me of the other Tearoom, I’m still scarred. Anyway, Tulip Bistro is in the same building so we stopped over. And that’s where our problem of being overfed started!
FRESH JUICERS!
CrocsAboutTown: I had visited Tulip Bistro but didn’t have the patience to sit and eat. I mostly come here for their orange juice. Having heard a lot about their pasta and of course seen a few pictures, we couldn’t but have pasta.
PASTA LA VISTA!
TheFoodLover: I had Fettuccine Alfredo topped with Grilled chicken and an extra topping of shrimps (you’d find the menu below). Al dente fettuccine, tasty sauce and tender grilled chicken…..Yum!
CrocsAboutTown: The sauce got clumpy as soon as it hit the table. Imagine what we had to deal with as we ate. I believe it needed more pasta water.
TheFoodLover: My problem was different…..the shrimps. Yes, we asked for it as a topping and that’s exactly how it came…..like it was borrowed from an entirely different dish and thrown in my bowl without trying to harmonize the flavors.
CrocsAboutTown: Yup! The shrimps were overcooked and tasted bland. It just sat on top of the pasta like it didn’t belong there.
CrocsAboutTown: I had Louisiana Scampi and as unexpected, it was tomato based! The portion size was huge, which is never a bad thing. However, I honestly didn’t like it at all. I get that they are trying make this dish their own but I just couldn’t get past the tomato sauce. A few forks into it and I was done. Went back to stuffing myself with more Fettuccine Alfredo till I couldn’t move.
TheFoodLover: As a Jollof lover, I got in my head and played this out as Nigerian jollof spaghetti (in this case penne) mixed with a lot of cream and I was okay with the result. The pasta was a bit too soft but it had this subtle herby vibe that compensated for it.
TEAROOM!
CrocsAboutTown: At this point, I was stuffed! This is why we shouldn’t have started our food tour on empty stomachs. I literally shoved the pasta down my throat. I wasn’t sure I could fit more food in me.
TheFoodLover: I couldn’t stop laughing at our now-huge tummies but what’s a lunch date without dessert? We somehow rolled into Tearoom after deciding that we’d just share one piece of whatever caught our fancies.
CrocsAboutTown: The indoor space was smaller than I imagined it to be. Nothing fancy at all. I wasn’t feeling the pink hue the room had either. We ordered a tres leches cake and moved our party of two outside.
TheFoodLover: Yup! The pink vibe was bad for pictures and it kind of dampened my spirit. But as soon as we got back outdoors, there was excitement again. And I loved the cake…..moist and yum.
CrocsAboutTown: How cute is the paper butterfly? I damned all consequences and hoped the lactose intolerant gods would show me mercy.
TheFoodLover: Haha! I believe they did show you mercy. I couldn’t leave without trying out their popular Whimsical Hot Chocolate. Tap to see action
